One Mans Odyssey

Had a little hiccup on the money front and have been left with nothing. Currently working on a vegetable farm and have no time will write soon…

After a couple weeks in Byron and a fleeting visit to Surfers paradise (I will cover both in further posts) I have today arrived in Brisbane. Before arriving I was warned that it was the ugliest city that one of my friends had ever seen. All I have to say is he must have been having a bad day. Admittedly by the time I arrived it was dark and the scenic city lights took up a lot of what created my first impressions but so far I am really happy to be here. Even through the tropical rain I managed to take a walk along the riverside.

At last minute I managed to book myself into Palace Backpackers which is right in the centre of the city and has real character. Though on first impressions not the cleanest hostel I've been in it has great facilities from what I've seen and I've already met some really friendly people. The whole hostel has a very unique feel considering it's size and outside our dorm window there is even a balcony overlooking the city streets below.

Perhaps it is the fact that I grew up in cities but I am really happy to be here and make a change from the small town life I've had for the past few weeks. Both have their merits and my views on which I prefer seem to change daily but for now it's good to be back in city. This may also be in part to the fact that my money has run very low. Many of the hostels in this area seem to offer Job Clubs which help you to find work and is probably something that I will be taking up very soon. Money is another situation we'll leave for another day

Overall my situation is good and after spending the last few days with a stomach bug in Surfers Paradise life is definitely on the up! Lot's more to come in the following days…

NOTE: This hostel has crazy voice announcements over a P.A. which are really amusing for the moment but I could see getting slightly annoying if staying for longer. We'll see how it goes?
